Recently SunTec has been awarded a 2 year contract (till December 2012) for DTBook production of over 360,000 pages from both printed and PDF titles from 5 Nordic government agencies including:

Celia in Finland
The Norwegian Library of Talking Books and Braille (NLB)
Nota in Denmark
The National Agency for Special Needs Education and Schools (SPSM) in Sweden

The Swedish Library of Talking Books and Braille – TPB is a government body that, in collaboration with local libraries, provides access to printed materials for people with physical impairment. The core motive of the organization is to facilitate talking books and books in Braile available for those with disability. Moving on the same path the company has been producing books in DAISY since 2001.

DAISY – CORE FEATURES

A Daisy Talking eBook is played on a CD-ROM disc that can comprise up to 50 hours of narration. The reader can easily navigate between chapters, sections and pages. Narrated or written notes can also be made anywhere in the talking book through smartly integrated features such as bookmarking, etc.

Client Requirements:

TPB contacted us to convert their content from original prints into DAISY specific format while carefully applying XML Meta tags. In the first phase, we were required to convert more than 200 books nearly comprising 150,000 pages in a span of 11 months. Till date, SunTec Digital has comfortably converted at least 7,000 titles into DAISY format for the client.

Key Challenges:

The printed documents were required to be scanned and ASCII code had to be extracted applying the OCR technique.
The entire text had to be proofread to ascertain complete textual accuracy.

The images and illustrations required high level of optimization as per the defined standards.

Converted over 580 titles during the initial one and a half year contract.
Titles converted to digital e-text books in DAISY format are "read" via speech synthesis coupled with on-screen reading and image viewing
